The first trial run of SWINGS!!! went off smoothly. Five brightly painted flourescent pink swings were hung off of various building around campus. They were extremely rideable, and not to mention fun. The bottom of course mentioned "B.O.C. did this". Also on the bottom of the swings were lacquered on abduction statistics in America. You can view the statistics at this address. I just cut and pasted the pertinent facts. I figured that since these swings were also educational, they would survive longer, but no. I woke up early the next morning to check to see if anyone was riding them, but they were all gone. Not even a trace of rope was left.
The first swing was off of the catwalk between HS&S and AP&M buildings. After getting it up, we (myself, and two people I'm not sure if I should mention) went down to check how ridable it was. Before we can even step out the door, some guy in a golfcart was already messing with it, and we thought he was cutting it down. Instead, he was just moving it out of the way of the golf cart. We snuck past and when we looked back, he was just taking a cig break on it. He was chillin. That part of the mission was successful. But by morning, gone.
The next swing was hanging off a crossbeam at the old student center, by soft reserves and the bike shop. The pictures of this one are up above.
The third swing was a two and a half story job off of Center hall. This one was really nice. Here you see it after we tried it out, still in swinging/ spinning action.
The next one we did was a helluva task. We strung one up in front of the library. It took about 95 feet of rope to get this one swing up. The pillars of the library have the buttresses about thirty feet up, so I had to swing the rope over the one, and then over the other one, and then try to get a plank as high up as i can knot it for optimal swinging, level it off, and then attach the swing. This took a really long time, but was well worth it. There was some incredible swinging action happening. Here's a really dark picture of me swinging. As you can see, you can't see where the rope is attached to, it was just too high up. Also, the fog rolled in at this point, so that's another reason why its fuzzy. In retrospect, it would've been easier with slipknots, but I was dumb. The hardest part is just being able to throw the rope up and over the buttress. I was initially going to scale the wall after tossing the rope up, but that was just impossible. Next time...
The fifth swing was hung over a walkway at the Price Center. This was just a good location because at night, its illuminated by red neon which matched the swing superbly.
I'm in the process of recruiting more people so that in one night, we can bomb the entire campus with at least 50 swings. The other part is to get people to swing in them. If there's people swinging, they can't cut them down. This works best in teams of three, two at top and one at the bottom to ensure proper level. I encourage everyone to make and hang swings wherever there seems to be a good place for one, which is just about everywhere if you ask me. They won't all have text on the bottom other than the "B.O.C did this," but I'm sure some will again. Keep on swinging, ya'll.
